Healthy option: Britons have turned to mackerel, rich in protein and omega-3, as an alternative breakfast option
Sales of smoked mackerel are soaring as health-conscious Britons increasingly turn to oily fish, a report revealed yesterday.

The sales boost comes in the wake of Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall’s Fish Fight campaign in which the celebrity chef championed smoked mackerel.

Waitrose fish buyer Melissa Spiro said: ‘Mackerel is a great value, healthy meal option.’
