PORTLAND, Ore. – The 14-year-old La Center, Wash., boy who collapsed during a middle school basketball practice on Jan. 3 died Monday at a Portland hospital.
The parents of Cody Sherrell issued a statement thanking first-responders and the staff at Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center. They also thanked people who had offered support and said, "Cody was a quiet boy. It's brought us such joy to know he touched so many lives."
Coaches had performed CPR but Cody remained in critical condition until his death.
Meanwhile, a Salem boy who collapsed Friday at a youth basketball practice has improved to good condition at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. Isaac Arzate had been listed in critical condition.
