'We are so proud of her': Addiction specialist Dr Drew opens up about his own daughter Paulina's brave seven year battle with anorexia

Dr. Drew Pinsky is an addiction medicine specialist and the go-to voice for media on any story regarding addiction.
Now, addiction has hit close to home for the host of Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
His 21-year-old daughter Paulina, one of three children and the only girl, has opened up about her own seven-year battle with anorexia and bulimia.
The 55-year-old physician will address his daughter's revelation Monday night on Entertainment Tonight.

In a statement released in advance of his appearance, the concerned father said:
'We are so proud of Paulina and her outreach to help others and particularly empower women,' he said. 'When she recognized she needed help she sought treatment and actively engaged in the process. And now she is using her insights to help others.'
Paulina, a junior at Barnard College in New York, wrote honestly about her struggles on the Columbia Daily Spectator’s website.
She said that as a competitive ice skater, she struggled to deal with pressure from others to be perfect, including her mom Susan, Drew's wife of 22 years.

'My ability to listen to my mother ... had disappeared when I had hit rock bottom four months prior and had put myself into therapy,' she wrote. 'Purging eight times in one day to cope with the emotional stress of being home during spring break had finally scared me enough to take action.'
Paulina, who is a triplet, along with brothers Jordan and Douglas, wrote that she made a stunning admission to her mother in car.
'I’ve been throwing up since the seventh grade,' she revealed that she told Susan. 'After a silence that lasted far too long, she responded, ''Well, get your teeth checked.'''
She realised her mother 'needed me to be perfect ... I was the pretty blonde girl who was a cheerleader and an ice skater. I got good grades, had a boyfriend, and was thin ... But I was suffering under the weight of ''perfection'' in a way that even I didn’t completely understand.'

In another post on the website Endangered Bodies, Paulina revealed a family dinner conversation about the media's focus on Kim Kardashian's pregnancy weight.
'I hadn’t even completed my thought about how disgusting I found the media’s emphasis on her weight gain ... before my mother interrupted me: ''Yeah. She got really fat.''
'I ... looked at my father ... he just mumbled his medical opinion under his breath, saying, ''You know, it’s very unhealthy for the baby to gain that much weight. Could be eclampsia.'''

The college student, who this month hosted a Body Positivity Week at her school, wrote that she is on the road to recovery.
'I am a year and a half into recovery after a seven-year battle with bulimia and anorexia, and this spectacle makes me furious... This public shaming is making the world a harder place to live in.'
Her father, who also hosts the HLN show Dr. Drew On Call, revealed in September on the network's website that he had his prostate removed after suffering from cancer for two years.
